Congratulations, you are getting married! Exciting times when all sorts of things need to be arranged, from the venue and dress to the guest list. But one very important question is: When should you book a wedding photographer? The answer is simple: preferably a year or even more in advance! Below I tell you why this is so important and how to find the perfect wedding photographer.
Why book your wedding photographer well in advance?
Your wedding day is one of the most important days of your life, and of course you want it captured perfectly. But what many people don't realize is that wedding photographers get booked up quickly, especially during the popular wedding months. Each photographer can only capture one wedding per day. So, once you have a good feeling about a wedding photographer, it's smart to book as soon as possible.
Most top photographers are booked 12 to 18 months in advance. This is especially true if you are getting married during busy periods, such as summer or holidays. If you wait too long, you will miss the opportunity to book your favorite photographer and may have to settle for an alternative that is not as good a fit for you.
How do you find the perfect wedding photographer?
Booking a wedding photographer is a decision you don't make lightly. After all, it's about the person who captures one of the most beautiful days of your life. But how do you find the perfect wedding photographer? You must pay attention to the photography style, quality and perhaps most importantly the personality of the photographer. Soon I will give a free webinar about finding your perfect wedding photographer. In it I will explain to you all about the different styles, what kind of quality you want to keep and what kind of personality suits you.
What if you are too late to make a booking?
Don't have enough time to book a year in advance? Don't panic! While it can be challenging to find a popular wedding photographer at the last minute, there are still options. Ask your favourite photographer for recommendations from other photographers. Chances are he/she has a fine network of photographers who provide the same quality. But be flexible on the date or consider a weekday wedding if the Saturday is full.
True story: The photos you see in this blog are from L&L's wedding. A year before their wedding, they had done a pre-wedding shoot with me. After the shoot they were very happy with the photos and the cooperation between the three of us. They did mention that they had already booked a wedding photographer before they met me. So all three of us knew that I was not going to capture their wedding. Still, the feeling gnawed at the couple for a year that they had such a good feeling about me. A week before their wedding, they sent me a message asking if I was still available? It was June, peak wedding photographer season. They were lucky that they were getting married on a Thursday and I was able to lovingly reschedule some appointments and still capture their wedding. To this day, they are very grateful that they listened to their own feelings. Because you don't want a 'What if' about your wedding. Biggest tip: follow your gut!
Why is booking on time so important?
Your wedding day will never come back. The emotions, the smiling faces, the little moments you may have forgotten later - these are all memories that a good wedding photographer can capture perfectly. By booking early, you ensure that you can book the photographer of your dreams and you won't have to make any concessions.
A wedding without stress
By arranging everything on time, including booking your wedding photographer, you will ensure that you are moving toward the big day without stress. Knowing that you have booked a professional who will capture your day in detail gives you peace of mind. That way you can fully focus on enjoying the preparations and the wedding day itself!
