Often enough I get the question whether I still photograph 'regular' family photoshoots. My answer to that is very clear: " No" . Not because I don't find it fun, but because I have found the value in another photography concept: Home Story reports. So it is still possible to photograph your family, but in a more valuable way, in my opinion, with moments that only belong to your family at home. Since pictures speak much more than a thousand words, I will take you along on a weekend in a holiday home in Drenthe with this fun family.
Family photo reportage on holiday
This lovely family invited me for an entire afternoon + early evening to capture their weekend away. It is a large family with two daughters, one son and entourage, with also lovely grandchildren and dogs running around. Lovely chaos! Especially for their father's birthday, the children chose an extra valuable gift: making new memories and immortalizing them exactly the way they are: via a documentary family report.
The 'ordinary everyday' is the most valuable memory
There was nothing 'special' planned for the time I came by. Everyone was doing their own thing. Children were just waking up or playing happily. The drinks were already being prepared and the first preparations for dinner were also in full swing. It is precisely in the ordinary things that I, as a documentary photographer, can unravel and capture the patterns and character traits. The small moments in between, when everyone is at ease, those are the moments whose value increases by the day.
Just the way you are, nothing staged
I say that now, but there is often one thing that I do 'stage': the family group photo . Yes, one of those that you better have so that everyone is at least once in a good photo together. But the nice thing about this, is that the whole show of taking this group photo, also brings with it very typical moments. Apart from this group photo, I mingle with everyone to actually just be there as an extra family member and 'coincidentally' I capture it all with my camera so that you can always look back on the nice memories of your family together.
How do we book our family photo reportage?
I think it would be fantastic to give even more families these precious memories. It doesn't have to be a weekend away or a holiday. It's all about the everyday moments, breakfast on Sunday, a babysitting day at grandpa & grandma's, a walk through the forest, blowing out together on the beach or maybe it's your birthday soon? I'd love to be there! Send an email to hello@shertakescare.com and I'll be happy to send you my Home Story Brochure without obligation so we can get to know each other and see if there's a click. Who knows, see you soon!
Love,
Sher
